MOONG DAL PACHADI & PANAKA

On the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, Panaka and Moong dal pachadi is traditionally offered as naivedyam to Lord Rama. Panaka, also known as Panakam is a festive sweet drink and a summer cooler. Let this festival remind you all to be positive and hopeful because good always triumphs over evil.

PANAKA Ingredients: · Water - 1 litre · Lime juice - juice extracted from 2 medium sized · Cardamom powder – 4 · Pepper powder – ¼ tsp · Ginger powder – ½ tsp · Few saffron strands · Pinch of salt · Grated jaggery – 1 cup (as per your preference) · Few Tulsi leaves Method: · Take a large bowl, add water in it. · Add the cardamom in a mortar and pestle and crush to a fine power. · Mix in the lime juice, cardamom powder, pepper powder, ginger powder, saffron strands, salt and grated jaggery to the bowl containing water. · Stir until well mixed. Add few tulsi leaves. · Chill it and serve cold or at room temperature.

MOONG DAL PACHADI Ingredients: · Moong Dal – ½ cup (Soak for 1-2 hours) · Fresh Coconut – 4 tbsp · Green chilies – 4-5 (as per your preference) · Few Raw mango pieces – roughly chopped · Hing – ¼ tsp · Salt

Method: Drain the soaked moong dal and place in a colander for a few minutes.

  • Now take a mixer jar add freshly grated coconut, green chilies, raw mango pieces, hing and salt. Grind it coarsely with very little water.

  • Now remove this in a bowl and add the soaked moong dal to the mixer jar and grind it coarsely.

  • Now mix it well and it's ready to be served.
