Amla chutney is a tangy and flavorful Indian side dish made with fresh Indian gooseberry and Indian spices. This can be served as a side dish or can be served with hot steamed rice with a drizzle of ghee over it. This is one of the ways of making it. I myself try so many variations when it comes to Amla. You got to try this recipe in your kitchen and thank me later !!!❤️

Amla which in Sanskrit means “Nectar of life” as it eliminates the causes of diseases in the body. Amla is also called as Nellikai in Kannada and Gooseberry in English. We all are aware of the health benefits of amla or gooseberry, and therefore including it in your diet is always a good idea during the season of its availability. 💚

Ingredients:

·       Amla (Gooseberry) – 8-10

·       Oil – 1.5 tbsp

·       Bydagi mirchi (dry red chilies) – 8-10

·       Fenugreek seeds – ¼ tsp

·       Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

·       Urad Dal – 1 tbsp

·       Chana Dal – 1 tbsp

·       Cumin seeds – 1 tsp

·       Hing – ¼ tsp

·       Curry leaves – 25-30

·       Coriander leaves – handful

·       Jaggery – lemon size

·       Lemon juice – of 1 small lemon

·       Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp or Fresh Turmeric which is available during winters

·       Salt to taste

Method:

·       Wash the amla in running water and dry it completely. Now steam it for 3-4 minutes.

·       Steaming helps us to cut the amla easily into small pieces.

·       Now take a pan, add little oil and add in the dry chilies. Fry it and keep it aside.

·       Now in the same pan, add in more oil and add fenugreek seeds and mustard seeds. Once it starts to crackle add in the Urad dal and chana dal.

·       Once the dal turns aromatic add in the cumin seeds and hing. Sauté it well.

·       Now add the curry leaves, sauté it. Now add in the coriander leaves and sauté it again. Turn off the flame.

·       Now take a mixer jar, add in all the above mixture and grind it without adding any water.

·       Now its time to add in our winter special star ingredient Amla, add jaggery and lemon juice to balance the taste. Add salt and turmeric powder, you can add fresh turmeric as its easily available during this season.

·       Grind it again without adding any water.

·       Your nutritious and healthy amla chutney is ready to be served as a side dish or it can also be served with hot steamed rice with a drizzle of ghee over it.
