AZTEC HOT CHOCOLATE (XOCOLATL), DRINK FOR THE WINTER

The sacred hot chocolate drink of the Aztecs & Maya. Ancient recipe of cocoa with valuable ingredients such as vanilla & chilli The Aztec word, 'Xocolatl, which means 'bitter water'. Back in the day, chocolate was praised for its medicinal properties. It was used as an energy drink and to cure diseases like jaundice, coughs, indigestion and gout problems.
Ingredients:
· Chili pepper - 1
· Water – 500 ml
· Vanilla extract – 2 tsp
· Cocoa powder – 2 tbsp
Method:
• Take a sauce pan chop the pepper and add it to 200ml of water and let it boil for a few minutes. Once the water is boiling, transfer the water to another pot through a sieve to remove the pepper.
• Now add 300 ml of water, the vanilla extract and bring it to a boil, then add the cocoa power and mix until it's an even mixture.
• You can drink it hot or let it cool before drinking.
• The drink will be a little spicy and watery compared to modern hot chocolate made with milk.
