CURD RICE (Mosaranna in Kannada) Navratri Special

The second day of Navratri celebrations is dedicated to Mata Brahmacharini, Goddess of Penance. Brahmacharini Mata is believed to bestow her devotees with wisdom and knowledge.🙏🙏🌹

Curd Rice, South India's ultimate comfort food where the soft cooked mushy rice is simply mixed with curd (Indian yogurt), salt & tempered with Indian spices. Curd rice is also known as thayir sadam or daddojanam or mosaranna in some South Indian languages.💕💝

Ingredients:

· Cooked rice – 1 cup

· Curd – 1 cup

· Milk – ¼ cup (if curd is too much sour)

· Green chillies – 1-2 (finely chopped)

· Ginger – 1 inch (finely chopped)

· Grated carrot – ¼ cup (optional)

· Coriander leaves (finely chopped)

· Pomegranate arils – 2 tbsp (optional)

· Sugar – 1 tsp

· Salt


For the tempering:

· Oil – 1 tbsp

· Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

· Udid dal -1 tsp

· Channa dal – 1 tsp

· Dried red chilli – 1-2 (broken)

· Curry leaves – 1 sprig

· Asafoetida – ¼ tsp


Method:

· Take a large bowl with cooked mushy rice in it, add curd, milk, green chillies, ginger, grated carrot, pomegranate arils, sugar, salt and coriander leaves.

· Heat oil in a small tempering utensil and add the mustard seeds.

· When they start crackling, add the dals and sauté until golden.

· Add red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida.

· Pour the tempering on the rice and serve cold with papad and pickle.
