INSTANT SAMBAR using SS Masala

Sambar the quintessential at all South Indian households which is a must for any celebration.šš Prepared this Sambar using the @ssmasala spice powder. A quick and delicious sambar ready to be served with rice.

Ingredients:
Ā· Toor dal ā ½ cup (washed & soaked well)
Ā· Turmeric powder ā ¼ tsp
Ā· A pinch of salt
For Ground masala:
Ā· Coconut ā ½ cup
Ā· Turmeric powder ā ¼ tsp
Ā· SS sambar powder ā 1.5 tbsp
Veggies:
Ā· Pumpkin ā 1 cup (cubed)
Ā· Carron ā ¼ cup diced
Ā· French beans ā ¾ cup (cut in length)
Ā· Onion ā 1 medium (cut in small cubes)
Ā· Tomato ā 1 big (cubed)
(Optional veggies)
Ā· Drumstick ā 1-2 (cut into pieces)
Ā· Ash gourd (cubed)
Ā· Brinjal (cut into quarters)
Ā· Bottle gourd - (cubed)
Ā· Jaggery ā 1 tbsp (as per your preference)
Ā· Tamarind pulp ā 1 tbsp
Ā· Salt
Ā· Coriander leaves for garnishing
For tadka:
Ā· Oil/ Coconut oil - 1 tbsp
Ā· Mustard seeds ā ¼ tsp
Ā· Dry red chillies - 2 nos.
Ā· Curry leaves ā 1 sprig
Ā· Hing ā ¼ tsp
Method:
Ā· Wash the toor dal and pressure cook with little turmeric powder and salt for 3 whistles.
Ā· Take a mixer jar with coconut, turmeric powder and SS sambar powder or any other brand of your choice. Grind to make a fine paste.
Ā· Take a cooking pot add the veggies of your choice with little water, cover and cook till it is 90% done.
Ā· Now add the cooked dal, and the freshly ground coconut mixture. Adjust the consistency by adding water.
Ā· Add diced tomatoes, tamarind pulp, jaggery, salt and bring it to a boil. Let it boil for 5-6 minutes.
Ā· Add the freshly chopped coriander leaves.
Ā· Now take a small tempering kadai with oil in it, add mustard seeds, broken dried red chillies, curry leaves and hing. Once the mustard seeds splutter, pour this tempering on the sambar.
Ā· Give it a good mix and cover it with a lid and turn off the flame.
Ā· Your Sambar is ready to be served with dosa, idli, medu vada, rice or any other dish of your choice.
