💚The fifth day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Skanda Mata🙏🌹 The meaning of 'Skanda Mata' is the mother of Lord Kartikeya who is known as Skanda.💚

💚Today's offering to the Goddess is Khara Pongal.🙏🌹💚

Khara Pongal is a rice lentil dish that is often prepared in south Indian homes to offer to GODS during puja. It is served hot along with coconut chutney and ghee.

Ingredients:

· Yellow moong dal - ½ cup

· Rice – ½ cup

· Water – 3 ¼ to 3 ½ cups

· Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp

· Salt to taste

· Ghee – 2 tbsp

· Jeera – 1 tsp

· Pepper corns – 10-12 nos.

· Cashew nuts – 1 tbsp

· Ginger – 1 inch (grated)

· Green chilies – 2-3 (slit)

· Curry leaves – 1 sprig

· Coriander leaves for garnishing

· Coconut chunks – 1 tbsp (optional)

Method:

· Wash yellow moong dal and rice thoroughly.

· Take a pressure cooker add water, turmeric powder, salt and 1 tsp ghee. Let it boil and now put the lid of the cooker. Pressure cook on medium flame just for 1 whistle.

· Let the cooker depressurize naturally and check out the consistency. If it is dry add hot water and keep it on low flame.

· Take a small pan add ghee, jeera, pepper corns and cashew nuts. Fry it on medium flame. Now add the grated ginger, green chilies, coconut chunks, curry leaves and coriander leaves.

· Pour the tadka and turn off the flame of the cooker. Mix it well.

· Cover the lid of the cooker for 2-3 mins.

· Khara Pongal is ready to be served.
