Mango Gojju is a side dish made from small juicy fibery mangoes which are sour with slight sweetness and unique flavor. Sharing my native Karwar’s recipe which is yummy, spicy, tangy, slightly sweetish. Very simple dish with just a few ingredients, absolute finger licking lip smacking curry. There may be slight variation in each household.

Ingredients:

  • Ripe Mangoes – 6-8 (small sour variety)

  • Grated coconut – ¾ cup

  • Dry red Chilies – 2-3 (adjust as per your preference)

  • Jaggery – ½ cup (adjust as per the sourness of the mangoes)

  • Salt to taste

  • Water

Method:

  • Wash the mangoes well under running water. Using a knife remove its tip & peel them with your hands.

  • Put the peel inside the bowl with water. Keep the whole mangoes with the pulp in another bowl and slightly squeeze it.

  • Next nicely squeeze the peel in water to extract any mango pulp sticking to it. Later discard the peel.

  • Now hold the dry red chilies on direct flame. It will burn a little and once it cools down it will be crisp.

  • Slowly crush these chiles using your fingers and mix it well with the grated coconut and salt. Add jaggery and give a good mix using your fingers.

  • Now add the squeezed mango pulp. Keep it in the refrigerator for some time, this will enhance the taste.

  • Don't discard the mango seeds. You will enjoy having this by dipping it in the gravy.

  • Your yummy, spicy, tangy and sweetish mango gojju is ready to be relished as a side dish for lunch or dinner.
